Have you ever heard of "CONDUCTIVE EDUCATION"? Very few people have - but the National Institute for Conductive Education in Birmingham was the first centre to be set up in the UK. To treat, help and educate cerebral palsy in children and adults, as well as the other debilitating neurological conditions like Parkinsons and MS, as well as stroke and acquired head Injury.
Dr Melanie Brown is one of our members and is a senior lecturer and leader at this charitable centre in Birmingham. She also travels nationally and internationally lecturing to medical and educational centres about her work and the need for more centres like it.
She told us that Conductive Education was first introduced in the 1940's by Dr Peto of Budapest, Hungary who started by treating Cerebral Palsied children.
But the centre is at risk - as a charity it is dependent on donations from well wishers, it is not government funded.
Our president Judith Green has nominated the Conductive Education Centre as the charity that we will support in the coming year.
