THE Throckmorton Trophy is an Open Mixed compe-tition played over the full 27 holes at the Vale.

No fewer than 112 competitors from 23 clubs entered this annual event and enjoyed the warmest day of the year.

The leaders after the nine holes with a splendid 26 points were Malcolm and Margaret Court, however, eight other couples were within two points.

Andy Smith and Pauline Laight fired a magnificent score of 47 that in most years would have been enough to take the trophy but subsequent scores of 46 were posted by both Kevin Carroll and Maureen Austin and Ben and Debbie More.

In the latter part of the afternoon yet another 47 was carded by Paul and Elaine Waring, who lost out on countback to Carroll and Austin (71pts).
