PERSHORE High School pupil James Train has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Cano-eing Championships in Japan next month.
The 17-year-old enjoyed a triple triumph at the British Champion-ships at Holme Pierpoint earlier this month and his gold medal efforts clinched a trip to the Far East.
James claimed top spots in the Senior C1 (1000m) and C2 500 and 1000m races at the Notting-ham event where sister Katie, Simon Avery and Ben Holmes were also successful.
Katie (13) won the Under-14 K4 1000 and 500m events, finished second in the K2 2500m and third in the K2 1000 and 500m races.
Ben (14), from Besford, claimed a gold, bronze and two silver medals at Under-14 and Under-16 level, while Simon doubled up for victory in the Junior C1 category.
James and Katie, children of Olympic Games canoeist Steve Train, and Simon are members of Fladbury Paddlers, while Ben is a member of the Worc-ester club.
Back on dry land but still making a big splash in the sporting world are Rosie Benjamin and Kirsty Law.
Cricketer Rosie (13) from Stock Green has earned selection for Worcestershire Under-13s, while 15-year-old Kirsty, recently crowned ladies champion at Evesham Golf Club, was in action for Herefordshire and Worcestershire at last weekend's National Schools Athletics Championships.
