A FORMER Abbey High School pupil has been awarded the coveted Green Beret after passing out as a Royal Marine.
Nicholas Williams completed 30 weeks of gruelling training designed to instil a high standard of self-discipline, professional ability and physical fitness.
The training culminates in commando tests, which recruits have to complete carrying 32lbs of kit.
Nicholas, 20, said: "Thirty weeks of the hardest training in the world is enough to change any man.
"It's been a fantastic experience and I've made some lifelong friends among my fellow Royal Marines.
"The sense of achievement is immense."
He has now been posted to 42 Commando in Plymouth.
