COACH Mick Tuohy was delighted with the workout Worcester City's players had as they won 4-2 at Tividale in their opening pre-season friendly last night.
City recovered from two goals down to beat the West Midlands League side, helped by two goals from striker Adam Webster.
And one of several plus points ahead of their weekend trip to Belgium was the display of trialist left-back Kevin Halliday.
The former Swindon Town youngster helped set up two of City's goals and Tuohy said: "He played very well and was comfortable, and he will be coming to Belgium with us."
Tuohy, who took charge with manager John Barton on holiday, added: "They started very brightly and we were on the back foot, but once we picked up the pace and addressed the situation, we were quite pleased with the way things went.
"It was a very useful workout against a decent side on a good surface, and it was just what we needed before we go to Belgium."
Tuohy took the opportunity to give 16 players a run-out during the game, although a number of the squad were missing through holidays or injuries.
The home side opened up the stronger, perhaps showing their early start to pre-season training, and shocked City after just five minutes when Reynolds took advantage of a defensive mix up to score from inside the area.
Mark Owen had an easy chance to equalise eight minutes later as he shot straight at goalkeeper Carmichael when through on goal and shortly after headed a David Foy cross wide.
Tividale went further ahead when Jon Holloway was adjudged to have pulled back Payne in the box, and Reynolds converted the spot kick.
City woke up after this and started to show some class, a lovely passing move involving Halliday and Dean Smith saw the ball eventually come to Webster who reduced the arrears.
John Snape had a shot saved on 29 minutes, but made up for it eight minutes later when he thumped the ball home after Mark Owen had a header cleared off the line.
Worcester stepped up a gear after the restart and completely dominated the game, using a rolling substitution system to give squad players a run-out.
Stewart Hadley put them ahead on 71 minutes, easily side-footing home from inside the box after Halliday had set him up.
Five minutes later, Dan Jones caused havoc on the left and crossed for Webster, whose effort went in off Tividale's Andy Jones.
Worcester: Hayes, Holloway, Halliday, Heeley, Jones, Snape, Smith, Foy, Owen, Webster, Wilde. Subs: Hadley, Parker, McDonald, Carty, Skyers.
