HIT-MAN Drewe Broughton is urging his team-mates to put Kidderminster Harriers' tremendous Tuesday night display to the back of their minds.
Broughton, who grabbed two goals - his first of the season - in the 4-1 mauling of York, believes Harriers' efforts will have been wasted if they do not get a result at Southend on Saturday.
The competitive target-man was one of Harriers' stars after they ended a four-game goal drought at Aggborough and lifted their Division Three tally to 10.
Broughton, whose heart is clearly in the club after a move to Oxford broke down, declared: "The York result is forgotten now. If we go and lose on Saturday, we are back to square one.
"From the team point of view, that result was critical. To go away and lose at Carlisle on Saturday after keeping three clean sheets was terrible.
"We want to create chances again at Southend and I believe we will get them. But it will be a much tougher game than York. We could have scored eight against them."
Broughton was relieved to get off the mark this season along with fellow striker Ian Foster and debut-making centre-back Abdou Sall who made a big impression.
The forward, who turns 23 today, remained confident despite struggling to find the net.
He said: "I'm a centre-forward and it's one of the pressures of the job. Lots of people want that number nine shirt. I always said October would be my month after injury set me back.
"I had been doing the hard work, holding the ball up and winning headers. Then suddenly it all clicked and I could have had three or four against York.
"There was a bit of soul-searching among the players after Saturday. We realised we had to do it for each other and we did a lot of work on getting the ball into the box first time.
"For me, I never really wanted to go because I felt I had made this my home now. Now I want to crack on and score 20 to 25 goals. You are always having to prove yourself as a forward."
Assistant boss Gary Barnett said: "Our players were in a positive frame of mind and wanted to go and hurt the opposition.
"You won't see many attacking performances for the full 90 minutes in the Third Division like that. We had more options and there was plenty of movement."
Harriers hope to have defenders Adie Smith (groin) and Mark Shail (knee) available for the trip to Southend so 20-year-old Sall may not necessarily keep his place.
Barnett added: "It's a tough one but we said before the Carlisle game that we had three winnable fixtures.
"Southend are not on a great run and are just above us in the table. What we are looking for is the consistency in performance and if we put some wins together, we will be pushing ourselves well up the table."
Harriers head to Chesterfield in the LDV Vans Trophy second round on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Meanwhile, the club have reacted to the drop in crowds which saw a record Aggborough Football League low of 2,002 on Tuesday night.
Harriers are offering a four-game deal for the price of just two.
Fans who buy a ticket for the games with Darlington on January 12 and Halifax on January 22 will get entrance to the Macclesfield clash on January 26 and Carlisle on February 9 thrown in.
Tickets go on sale from Monday, November 5, through to Monday, December 24.
The offer does not apply to the family enclosure.
