ALL eyes will be on pace star Glenn McGrath tomorrow when he makes his high-profile debut for Worcestershire in their Benson and Hedges Cup clash with Somerset at Taunton.
And New Road officials are hoping the wet weather will relent to enable the world-class Australian to launch his County career with a headline-grabbing performance.
"Everybody's looking forward to it and so is Glenn, so we need a little bit of nice weather because Taunton is a nice place to play," said Worcestershire coach Bill Athey.
Thirty-year-old McGrath said: "To qualify you can't rely on the rain, you'd like to get a full day's play. Looking at the team we have it's a pretty strong one and we can back ourselves against anyone."
The County are still very much in the shake-up for qualification for the quarter-finals after beating Glamorgan by nine wickets at New Road and having their two other games against North-amptonshire and Gloucestershire wrecked by the rain.
They are currently top of their group on the same number of points as Northants who have an inferior run rate to skipper Graeme Hick's men.
Yesterday, Somerset had their scheduled match with Glamorgan at Taun-ton abandoned without a ball being bowled after the previous day's heavy rain had left the outfield saturated.
Athey, however, is hoping the wet weather will not spoil McGrath's eagerly-awaited debut.
He said: "There's certainly anticipation around Worcestershire about Glenn's arrival. It is great for the club and the city.
"If all the boys play well alongside Glenn we've got a great chance of doing some pretty special things. If any of our young seamers fail to learn from him then they want their backsides kicking."
New Road commercial manager Stewart Edwards said: "A lot of people are waiting to see Glenn. If he gets a hat-trick in his first over that would be brilliant wouldn't it? I'm looking forward to seeing him myself."
Since McGrath's signing was an-nounced there has been a 10 per cent increase in membership and Edwards says: "The corporate bookings are very good this year and I'm sure that's allied to the fact we have got Glenn and that the West Indies are coming."
