MALVERN Town entertain Wolverhampton Casuals tomorrow (Saturday) in an Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division fixture and Town have to win if they are sustain any chance of promotion to the Midlands Alliance.
Town, whose Langland Stadium facilities were inspected by Alliance officials yesterday (Thursday), still believe that even the runners up spot could achieve an Alliance place.
Town general manager Richard Anson said: "Although we would rather achieve promotion by winning the league, these days facilities are also high on the agenda, and it might be that a number of our rivals do not have what is required to go up. I am sure we have work to do too, but we do not think we are that far behind of what is required."
In whatever way any promotion might be achieved, Town will need to improve on last week's display at home to Heath Hayes, when they went down 2-0.
Anson continued: "It is fair to say we were unrecognisable from the side that won 5-0 at Brierley Hill just three days earlier, but we have been on a phenomenal run and expectations are naturally running high. But we have a number of injury problems to contend with, and we really need everyone to get behind the team at the moment, and try to help us get the three points regardless of the level of performance."
Town do have selection problems for tomorrow's game, Dean Roberts picked up a leg injury last Saturday, which is likely to keep him sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Craig Williams might even miss the rest of the season and Lee Hooper is unavailable and Billy Davis is not expected to make a comeback prior to having a run out with the reserves during mid-week.
But there was good news for Town this week, when Rik Halion's proposed 35 day ban, following his sending off at Ledbury in the League Cup was overturned on appeal and John Walton, who missed last week's game, should be fit to return on Saturday. Also Town boss Neil Hunt is still hopeful of landing at least one new signing prior to this weekend's game.
In the meantime Hunt will pick from: Watson, Cannon, Clayton, Chalmers, Walker, Palmer, Johnson, Halion, Walton, Owen, Willetts, Taylor, Goodman, Cox, Rose and Jones.
On Tuesday Town visit Sedgley White Lions in another Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division fixture (7.45pm).
Reserves
LAST Saturday, the Town Reserves continued their excellent run of form with a well earned point in the 2-2 Express and Star West Midlands League Division One (South) draw at Wyre Forest Brintons.
On Monday, the U18s put the disappointment of their 4-0 WFA County Cup semi-final defeat at Sutton Coldfield behind them, when they won 2-0 at Gloucester City in the Midland Youth League.
This Tuesday, the U18s are at home to Cinderford in a League fixture (7.30pm), whilst the Reserves visit Bridgnorth Town Reserves in another league fixture next Thursday (7.45pm).
