OVER 100 people of all ages enjoyed a brilliant evening at the barbecue held at The Hill, Staunton, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs John Luard, in aid of Staunton Church funds. Everything had been prepared by the PCC and friends and special thanks to all of them who worked so hard to make it such a success. The evening began in hot sunshine and ended with Scottish dancing organised by Margaret Barclay under a full moon. There was a splendid raffle to swell the profits.
A circular walk round Tirley was led by Dave and Gill Redmond on a warm summer evening when 13 members of Staunton & District Rambling Club met at the New Inn, Haw Bridge. They began by following the route of Tirley Millennium Way across the haw to one of the few new cider orchards in the district. The path then crossed a field of maize which, at this time of year, was relatively easy going but in a few months could cause problems. After a pause by the church the ramblers climbed the bank of Tirley Elm before crossing the Ridlers End and on to Tirley Hill Lane. A short walk and they joined the footpaths across the meadows where Haw Bridge Inn could be seen as a direction point the passing the inn and the road the ramblers returned to the New Inn for a social drink an conversation at the end of a lively summer evening.
Parish communion will be held at St James's Church, Staunton on Sunday, July 20, at 9.30am.
