PEDESTRIANS in North Malvern can cross the road in safety - thanks to a mirror that is the first of its kind in the area.
Until now, walkers - many of them children on the way to Northleigh School - have had to lean out from behind a high wall to see if it is safe to cross Cowleigh Road near the Old Hollow junction.
A suggestion of a safety mirror, made by a local resident, was taken up by Worcestershire county councillor Jeremy Webb.
Malvern Hills Highway Partnership had to get special permission from the Department of Transport, because pedestrian mirrors are not part of the standard array of safety aids.
Now it is in place for a trial period. Coun Webb said: "The mirror already looks like being a worthwhile and imaginative way of crossing more safely at a difficult point."
