WORCESTER Rugby Club's chief executive Chris Laidlaw has been axed as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
Chairman Cecil Duckworth confirmed the move with Laidlaw set to leave Sixways at the end of the month.
Laidlaw was only appointed chief executive last year following Geoff Cooke's departure, but Duckworth has decided the role can be accommodated by present staff.
Duckworth will also play a much more hands-on role this season dealing with a number of the chief executive duties, while operations director Mike Robins and commercial manager Kathy Leather will also be given extra responsibilities.
"There is a new structure in place at the club," said Duckworth.
"This season we have had to look at cutting costs and Chris' role was one of those which came into the equation.
"I will have more involvement in the day-to-day running of the club this season. It's something which I'm looking forward to because I believe this season could be the one.
"Everyone is pulling together in one direction this season."
