COLWALL'S rector Carl Attwood made it to the church on time last Saturday thanks to a friend with a helicopter.
He was due to conduct a wedding at the village church at 2pm - which was a problem, because at lunchtime he had to address a meeting of Acorns Childrens Hospice in Selly Oak, Birmingham.
"It would have been close to impossible to get back in time, but I couldn't change the wedding time. You can't spoil the bride's big day," said Rev Attwood.
Luckily, his friend Peter Earp, of English Braids, has his own helicopter, and he offered to ferry the rector back to Colwall.
"As it turned out, there were problems on the motorway and I just wouldn't have made it. But this way there was plenty of time for me to get to the wedding and it all went off smoothly. It was all great fun," said Rev Attwood.
Rev Attwood is chairman of St Michael's Hospice, near Hereford, and in September will become chairman of the association of the nation's independent hospices.
Two weeks ago, he celebrated 25 years as a priest with a service followed by a pig roast.
