MALVERN is just one step away from becoming an official Fairtrade town.
The initiative is organised by the Fairtrade Foundation, which provides an independent guarantee of a better deal for Third World producers selling through Western shops.
Cafs, supermarkets and other outlets have agreed to stock Fairtrade products, and all that remains is for Malvern Town Council to pass a resolution supporting the organisation and agree to serve its coffee and tea at its meetings.
Campaigner Eileen Richard-son said a meeting is being arranged with the council to establish whether it will take these steps.
If it does, and the foundation agrees the town has succeeded in satisfying all its requirements, Malvern will be able to boast of Fairtrade status on signs around the town.
