BARNARDS Green Cricket Club has dedicated its new scorebox to the memory of a young member who died in a car accident.
Team member Andy Lamb unveiled a plaque on the side of the new box, remembering his son Alex who died in January this year.
Wednesday's ceremony, conducted in front of friends, members and sponsors, was preceded by a cricket match between specially selected teams.
"It was very good," said Andy. "Alex would very much have approved of it."
His son, who was 21, had been a member of the club since the age of 11 and also played cricket at Middlesex University, where he had been studying for a degree in Sonic Arts. He had been a pupil at Powick Primary School and The Chase after moving to the area in 1988.
Alex died on January 22 when his Ford Mondeo hit a tree after leaving the road near Rugby.
His funeral saw Powick Church overflowing with hundreds of friends and family.
