This game had everything from skilful batting, slices of good luck and ultimately a tense finish.
Hanley put Worcester in on a good track, in front of a large, sunbathing crowd. J Ellis (19) and J Gullich (13) were to top score but all of the Hanley bowlers and fielders looked sharp. Connor Fletcher (2-14) was the pick of the bowlers, but was backed up well by skipper Rory Mathews (0-12), Joe Pantling (1-8) and the wicket keeping skills of Freddie Lechmere.
Worcester were to post a score of 286-4, making a net score of 266.
Hanley made a confident start and Mathews (8 no) and Lechmere (5 no) defended well against some accurate bowling. At the start of the last four overs, Hanley needed 27 to win. Sam Harler (5) and Fletcher (15) were so nearly to pull this off as they pursued the runs with great shots and quick singles. Worcester though had saved their best bowler until last and Ellis showed his class in the last over. With nine needed he bowled two excellent dot balls before Fletcher got one through the covers for two. Hanley were left needing four off the last ball. Ellis left Harler scrambling for a run, only to be run out by the bowler following up.
Hanley closed on 273-3 a net score of 258, a great game of colts cricket played in the very best spirit.
Hanley and Upton Man of the Match: Connor Fletcher.
