A MAN launched two violent attacks on his girlfriend after she had been out for the night with friends.

Jamie Webb had been drinking through the night before his girlfriend, Lorna Rainsford with whom he had been living for two years, returned home at 5.30am on Friday, June 19, Worcester Magistrates heard.

"She had knocked on the door to gain entry because she had not taken her keys out with her," said Philip Worrall prosecuting.

"Opening the door Mr Webb hit her in the face.

"He pushed her into a bush by the house and kicked her in the stomach while she was on the ground."

The violence subsided and the couple went to bed. But when Webb woke up at 10am he launched another attack, Mr Worrall said

"She had gone to a neighbour's house to defuse the situation, but he went after her which is when he put is hands round her neck in a strangling motion," he told the court.

The police were called and Webb, of Humber Road, Ronkswood, was arrested.

Webb had taken responsibility for the offence and "accepted his behaviour was not acceptable," said Martha Recordon defending.

"He has lost the woman he loved and adored and he has accepted he is never going to get her back," she told the court at Friday's hearing.

"He told me had had lost everything and it was his own stupid fault."

Webb had been on all-day drinking binges for a couple of weeks prior to the offence, and on the night in question had stayed up drinking until 5.30am, the court heard.

But during his three weeks in custody he had not been drinking and received professional help to detox, said Miss Recordon.

Webb, aged 31, admitted the two charges of assault by beating.

Magistrates adjourned the case until Wednesday, August 13, for a pre-sentence report to be carried out.
