A DRAMATIC Civil War re-enactment was held at Witley Court over the weekend.
The Oliver Cromwell, Warts and All display kept the public entertained as well as educating them about the history of what happened in 1648 during the English Civil War.
The display, by the Fairfax Re-enactment Group, centred on the events surrounding the struggle between Cromwell, the New Model Army, diehard Royalists and the Scots to gain control of the country.
Levellers
During this period King Charles I, who was under house arrest, had encouraged a Scottish Army to invade England.
This was also the time when the Levellers came into being. They were a radical voice within the New Model Army, calling for a new constitution and elections to a new Parliament.
Hundreds of visitors on Saturday and Sunday watched the group re-enact infantry and cavalry displays as well as playing out the assassination and funeral of Colonel Rainsborough, the leader of the Levellers.
A spokeswoman for Witley Court, Great Witley, near Worcester, said it was a very busy event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
"I think the re-enactment group enjoyed themselves more than anybody."
