A SIZZLING salsa is just one of the hot dance numbers a husband and wife team are banking on to help fulfil their dream of raising £5,000 for St Richard's Hospice.

Philomena and Brian Green, who have been whisking people off their feet at their monthly ballroom, sequence and Latin evenings in St John's for just over a year, have already raised £4.776.

But the sprightly 63-year-olds from Fernhill Heath are hell-bent on reaching their £5,000 target at a glitzy entertainment evening on Saturday, August 9.

"We normally get a crowd of around 140 but with the holidays around the corner, we wanted to give the evening a real boost and make that last few hundred pounds," said Mrs Green.

"The night is roughly 50 percent sequence and 50 percent ballroom, with a bit of Latin thrown in, and the country-style Red Hot Salsa always gets people on their feet.

"There can be as many as three huge circles on the floor which is wonderful to see."

Mr and Mrs Green, who have been together for 20 years, have already raised hundreds of pounds for the charity from regular dances in Droitwich over the last 15 years.

Branching out, they introduced the evenings in Worcester, which take place on the second Saturday of every month at St John's Sports Centre, Swanpool Walk, between 8pm and 11pm.

Both experienced dancers and beginners are welcome to come along. Entrance is £3.
