WORCESTER City Council put on a brave face as it revealed its vision for the future of the city yesterday.

Council leader Stephen Inman, launching this year's Best Value Performance Plan, said the city would become greener and safer.

He also promised that the council - working to meet the target of providing "Worcester, a great place to liove, work and visit" - would aim to give tourists a better deal by providing a better range of entertainment at night and improving the High Street and riverside.

However, Coun Inman said the council was not in a position to do everything to a high standard because of financial constraints.

He said it would "do less, but to a high standard," at the same time as making management cuts.

Furthermore, many of the proposals in the plan rely on winning grants from central government and other organisations.

"I'm confident that the resulting vision and set of strategic priorities will stand the test of time, and allow us to continuously improve the quality of life in Worcester," he said.

Labour Group Leader Coun Adrian Gregson dismissed the vision for the future of the city as "haphazard".
