CUTTING a dash at Christopher Whitehead School, Worcester MP Mike Foster was probably grateful he was learning the tango and not the foxtrot.

Mr Foster was one of 40 people who arrived at the St John's school for the first in a series of Tango Argentino lessons given by a Latin American ballroom dance champions, at one time ranked ninth in the world.

Paul Pritchard and wife Barbara of Dance at 8 are running a series of classes across the county teaching adults a variety of different dance techniques.

The eight-week Tango Argentino course kicked off last night at the school.

"Tango Argentino is an original form of dance," said Mrs Pritchard.

"It differs from the basic tango because it is more moody. It's a street tango as used in the film Evita."

And as for Mr Foster's dancing skills, Mrs Pritchard said it probably wasn't time to give up the day job!

Another eight-week course - Simply Salsa - was due to begin at Chawson First School, Droitwich tonight and Dance at 8's Video Pop Star's for Adults, in which grown-ups can learn the moves to the latest pop hits, continues at the Lyppard Grange centre in Warndon Villages.

Classes are also held for Beginners Ballroom and Le Roc French Jive, a form of dance which evolved in France from the wartime jive imported from America.
