OWNERS of Nissan Terranos have been warned to make sure their cars are safe because thieves are targeting the 4x4s to carry out ram raids, say Hereford Police.
The warning has been made after offenders tried to break into a blue Nissan Terrano parked in the car park of the Hereford branch on Homebase between 7am and 5pm on Friday, June 27.
On Friday, June 20, a Terrano was used in a ram raid at Vision Express in Hereford and another was used in a similar incident in Evesham.
"Terranos are being targeted by criminals for use in criminal activity such as burglaries and ram raids because they are very robust and have large boot space," said a police spokeswoman.
Reliable
"Specifically, the Terranos being targeted tend to be between five and 10 years old because the alarm and locking systems are not as reliable as the more up-to-date models."
Police have urged owners of the 4x4s to take action.
"Always ensure the vehicle is parked in busy areas where there is plenty of human activity and avoid the obvious quieter areas where offences can take place without anyone noticing," said PC Dave Cartwright.
"Be aware and take action now."
Anyone with information about the attempted theft should contact PC Cartwright at Hereford Police Station on 08457 444888 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
