KIDDERMINSTER Harriers highlighted their potential to make an impact in the Nationwide League Division Three by drawing 1-1 against a strong Leicester City side at Aggborough last night.
The Premiership newcomers took the lead just after half-time through Brian Deane with Sam Shilton notching an equaliser on 75 minutes in front of a 2,501 crowd.
Harriers, who paraded a number of trialists and made several changes during the second period, were good value for their draw by producing a display which pleased manager Ian Britton.
He said: "It was very encouraging. I thought we played some decent stuff and I felt in the end a draw was a fair result.
"I was very pleased with our fitness levels. I thought we matched them in that department and I was pleased with the way the lads came back. But we're not getting carried away. We've got to build on it and there's still a lot of hard work to do."
After an uneventful first half in which Jordan Stewart had an effort hit Harriers' bar, the game burst into life in the second period which was only a minute old when Deane headed in a Keith Gillespie cross.
The goal acted as a spur for Kidderminster who went close to equalising when trialist Narada had a header hit the post.
Another trialist John Williams, who looked threatening up front, had a first time shot tipped over by keeper Danny Coyne before limping off to be replaced by Kyle Lightbourne.
Harriers' efforts finally paid off when Bo Henriksen sent over a cross for Shilton to fire home with a precise left footer.
Lightbourne missed a good chance on 78 minutes before a header by Deane was cleared after being pushed onto the post by keeper Stuart Brock.
Overall, it was a highly encouraging display by Harriers who were well served by their crop of trialists.
Britton said: "This week I'll make my mind up on some of them. A couple I'll take on and there's also a couple I want to bring in."
Harriers: Brock, Coleman, Stamps, D. Williams, Hinton (Smith, 72), Willis, Bennett (Ward, 64), Flynn (Parrish, 72), J. Williams (Lightbourne, 60), Lewis (Henriksen, 72), Narada (Shilton, 65).
