A TWO-year-old girl could be scarred for life after a glass bottle toppled off a stacked display in a Worcester supermarket and exploded in her face.
Ella Cashion needed six stitches in her cheek and two in her lip after being showered with glass when the bottle smashed on the floor at Sainsbury's, Blackpole, on Monday afternoon.
Her father is "furious" the store did not remove the display immediately to prevent further accidents.
"The store rang a day after to ask how Ella was. I told them and asked if the display had been removed. I couldn't believe it when they told me it hadn't," said 32-year-old John Cashion, of Worcester.
"You never take young children down the wine aisle because of the bottles, but this was at the front of the store.
"You'd think a store like Sainsbury's would have removed the display immediately. To still be there, a day after a two-year-old is injured, is terrible."
The tot was in the store at around 4pm with her grandmother, Maureen Coles and five-year-old brother Jack.
But, as they walked past a stack of Schloer grape juice, one bottle fell and smashed.
"I thought a bomb had gone off," said Mrs Coles, "It was loud and I was spattered in Ella's blood."
Staff called an ambulance to take Ella to Worcestershire Royal Hospital - then had to call another when a six-year-old boy fainted at the sight of her blood.
"Displays like this should be banned," Mr Cashion added. "I'm glad it didn't go in her eye. We have to wait now to see whether she'll be scarred for life or need plastic surgery."
A Sainsbury's spokesman said an investigation had started.
"Customer safety's our number one priority and an incident like this has never happened before. The display has been moved."
