FROM making the headlines to inspiring Hollywood films, Hallow WI celebrated its diamond anniversary in the knowledge that the institute has thrown off its fusty image.
Fifty-five members of Hallow's WI - aged from 30 to 85 - met up for its 60th bash at the parish hall.
And branch secretary Val Hibbitt said the event was far from the traditional "tea-dance" people would imagine.
"We are a very pro-active group and really enjoy the fund-raising and activities we do, and our anniversary dinner was a real celebration of that," she said.
"We had a great evening and I think the last few years has really shown another side to the WI.
"Every year we discuss two or three major, national issues we are concerned about, and our ideas are then presented to the whole organisation in May.
"Our opinions are being taken seriously, and it all begins at a local level.
"For example, there was the time Tony Blair's political speech to the WI was booed and they are even making a film about one local branch."
The meal, held on Thursday, June 26, was also a chance for Hallow's ladies to thank Viv Moore for her three years of hard work as president of the branch.
She is due to retire at the end of this year.
