HISTORY has been very much in the making for Worcester Nomads Cricket Club.

Making his senior debut, under 14 batsman Nathan Newport demonstrated his undoubted talent by scoring an unbeaten 110 against Alvechurch.

The following day saw the first ever Nomads senior game to include a lady player in their side when Lucy Marsh made her debut in the Sunday second eleven.

Newport's innings was the highlight of the second eleven Saturday Worcestershire Lea-gue fixture.

Batting at four in the order he showed a full range of strokes. Support came from Dave Finbow (32) and Dave Pearson (31). Steve Wilks came in for the final few overs, and helped Newport to his century, and to push Nomads to a total of 232-5.

Capitalise

Nomads, however, were unable to capitalise, and des-pite keeping the home side tied down early on, Alve-hur-ch were always in the hunt.

Miles Illingworth bowled well, taking 3-60. The finish was going to be close and with a couple of vital wickets from Illingworth and Dominic Harris, Nomads appeared to edge in front.

Alvechurch's Pritchard (78no) and wicketkeeper Wea-ver had other ideas, however, and with injuries to Williams and Madzarevic, Nomads were unable to prevent Alvechurch winning by three wickets.

Lucy Marsh became the first Nomads senior lady player as the side played an entertaining unscheduled fixture ag-ainst Entaco from Studley, following the withdrawal of their original opponents.

Lucy, who plays for Worcestershire Ladies, produced an excellent performance in the field, and an unbeaten 8 at the end of the Nomads allotted 40 overs.

Entaco had been invited to bat first and posted a total of 183-7 in a 40-over game.

The visitors bowled without a great deal of luck, with the home side showing some aggressive leg-side hitting throughout. Nomads got off to a steady start in reply, before picking up the tempo. The failing this season however, has been in maintaining the run chase through the middle and latter overs and only 44 were scored in the last 18 overs, as the game drew to its conclusion giving the home side a relatively comfortable victory.

Nomads Saturday firsts lost at home to Alvechurch, having done much of the hard work in tying their visitors down to only 213-9 from their 50 overs.

Rose and Clifford both made 30 and Sidaway 29, while Ian Jinks with three wickets for only 38 was the pick of the home bowlers.

Nomads top order has been very solid in recent weeks, but with Harris away no-one built an innings. Seven batsmen made double figures, with Ollie Griffiths top-scoring with 23 in a total of 134.
