HENRY Duffill, a shoemaker from Perry Cottage, Bromsgrove, appeared at the Police Court on a bigamy charge. Magistrates heard how he had returned from the South African war and married his cousin Lizzie while still married to the former Emma Goddard, of Wychbold. Magistrates committed him to the next Assizes at Worcester.

MANY were complaining about the poor condition of the roads in and around Bromsgrove. Alcester Road especially had deteriorated to such and extent as to make it dangerous. The weather was said to be one of the chief causes. Heavy rain and floods had washed away much of the binding material on the surfaces while drought had loosened underlying stones.

BROMSGROVE police enjoyed their annual summer outing visiting the Dukeries at Mansfield. The party included the superintendent, magistrates' clerk and all the constables. On arrival they hired a three-horse charabanc to see the sights and partook of meat tea on their return.

NARROW Tagwell Lane in Droitwich would not present problems for farmworkers driving carts meeting each other from opposite directions in future. Dr Corbett had kindly offered land to enable the lane to be widened at intervals to allow vehicles to pass.
