DEAR EDITOR -- Here we are in the middle of July and the hottest spell of the year so far, so I have sent you a photograph of Droitwich's famous lido taken this evening.

What a disgrace.

Now I know that you get lots of letters about the lido when the weather is nice but, excuse me councillors, THAT'S WHAT THE LIDO IS FOR.

As many have noticed, Droitwich is about as far from the sea as you can get, yet we have the unique ability to offer to this area an open air salt water swimming pool.

With school holidays now upon us, I fear there will be children from less well-off families who will be lucky to get to the seaside for a day, let alone a week. So what an obvious benefit the lido would be for them, and of course for everyone.

The likelihood is, unfortunately, that a whole generation of children will miss out unless something positive is done soon.

So will the local councils please stop contemplating their navels, stop trying to redevelop the lido into what it is not, and restore it back to what it has always been - a wonderful, historic, healthy, unique local facility for all to enjoy.
