A SPA councillor is calling for a full consultation with residents before plans are put in place to boost trade and tourism in Droitwich.
Cllr John Cook (Droitwich West-Lab) welcomes Droitwich canal restoration project. But he feels building a pub near the junction of New Chawson Lane and Ombersley Road would cause friction with nearby residents.
No formal planning application has yet been submitted. But a Wychavon council guide for future planning applications, earmarks the plot for development. And the blueprint features a family pub as a clear option.
Already residents have approached Cllr Cook with objections. They are worried that the new pub will devalue property prices in the area.
Safety worry
Anthony Thompson of Coleford Close said: "I would rather we did not have a new pub in the area. I have two young sons and have concerns about the noise and whole safety aspect of it."
But Lillian Lyes of Coleford Close said she would be happy to see something that would bring in new people.
Cllr Cook said: "It is important we look at revamping Droitwich and a pub would be an important part of this development. But there are a large number of pubs in Droitwich and many will object to the proposal."
He added some residents on the estate had concerns over noise and the volume of people a new pub would bring to the area.
"We have a responsibility to improve the area but there must be consultation with the town council and residents first."
A guide has been produced by Wychavon District Council so that residents can have their say on future planning proposals.
