HARD-HIT Redditch manufacturers look set to miss out on a 10-year plan to regenerate the car industry in the West Midlands.
Part of the plan by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) has left Redditch Council and bosses fearing for the future of manufacturers across the town.
A proposal for a hi-tech A38 "corridor" will see AWM give cash and advice to firms involved in the motor industry from Birmingham to Malvern, but not Redditch.
The move is to help companies cut their dependence on the car industry after the shake-up at Rover, which was threatened with closure in 2000.
But Redditch relies heavily on the motor industry, depending mainly on manufacturing components for Rover at Longbridge.
Rod Laight, of Redditch Manufacturers Association, said he was amazed and shocked the town had been left out.
The council is to also voice its concerns and is calling on MP Jacqui Smith for help.
An AWM spokesman said: "While Redditch does not fall within the boundaries of the corridor, the benefits and support offered is not restricted to the A38 corridor and are intended to diffuse out to the wider manufacturing base.
"The West Midlands Regional Economic Strategy Update is now out for consultation and all representations made by partners, including Redditch Council, will be given full consideration before the final draft is published later this year.
"Redditch has potential which AWM recognises, including a wealth of traditional skills and a number of key investment opportunities.
"The Abbey Stadium development, which is supported by AWM, is expected to create 1,000 jobs and is a shining example of the possibilities for the town."
