A WOODROW woman who was jailed for six months for causing unnecessary suffering to a dog - the maximum penalty for animal cruelty - has dropped an appeal against her conviction and sentence.
The Advertiser reported Shirley Mentos, aged 53, of Astley Close, was also given a life ban from keeping animals by Redditch magistrates in Kidderminster earlier this month.
In March last year, her son Jason, 27, claimed he had discovered the emaciated dog - which later had to be put down - dumped on Dingleside Middle School's playing fields.
He alleged he had taken the neglected collie crossbreed back to his house and called the council dog warden.
But it was later revealed it was through his mistreatment that the animal was in such an appalling condition it had to be destroyed.
Mentos was also sentenced to six months in prison earlier this year.
