REDDITCH Citizens Advice Bureau is calling on ethnic minority volunteers in the town to help with a continuing community project.
The Minority Ethnic Community Involvement Project has already been running for a year and now is on the lookout for more ethnic minority trainee advisers to push forward advisory services to communities which have previously missed out.
After the launch in July 2002, the project has been a success with services reaching communities across Redditch at easily accessible venues including the All Women's House, Smallwood mosque and the Batchley Support Centre in Salters Lane.
New recruits will be trained to NVQ levels two and three in advice areas such as employment, housing and welfare benefits, as well as specialising in immigration advice.
They will also receive professional support and supervision.
The £200,000 project, led by John McFarlane, was set up after it was found only five per cent of advisers from Redditch CAB and their clients were from minority ethnic communities.
The project is also designed to reduce the barriers facing people who wish to volunteer by providing child care and travel expenses.
For more details about becoming a volunteer for the new project, drop into the CAB offices at 20 Unicorn Hill or call 61554.
