BOWLING: The chase for the Kidderminster and District Midweek League Division One title hotted up when St Johns A lost for only the second time this season.

They were beaten by Ombersley but second-placed Stourport B were also defeated at home to bottom-placed Chainwire.

As a result, Bewdley A took over in second spot with victory over Cookley A.

In Division Two, St Ambrose closed the gap at the top to four points with a victory over leaders Bewdley B, while Gilt Edge C moved out of the relegation spots.

Stourport D won the Division Three battle of the town teams against their C side and Royal Ordnance A's first league defeat was inflicted by St Johns C.

St Ambrose B are now top of Division Four due to beating Chester Road B and St Georges BWP still lead Division Five following a success at Royal Mail B.

Franche A, Bewdley A, Kinver A and St Johns Tomkinsons all recorded victories in the Jubilee Mk 1 Cup, while Chainwire B, Carolians and Gilt Edge D triumphed in the Mk2 Cup.

l Stourport Bowling Green Club held their annual Lord Ednam trophy on Sunday in an excellent day's bowling.

There were 42 entrants from St Johns, St Ambrose, Chainwire, Gilt Edge, Franche, Ombersley, Royal Ordnance, Little Lakes and Stourport.

Robert Plant faced Derek Maddocks in the final and was victorious 21-19 after taking an early lead and holding onto his advantage.

Plant defeated Mick Simester, of St Johns, in the semis, while Maddocks accounted for Andrew Millward.

A club spokesman said: "We would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter and those who helped out during the day."
