BROMYARD 1 SWIFTS 7

RAMPANT Stourport Swifts took no prisoners in their first pre-season friendly at depleted West Midlands League side Bromyard.

Last season's hotshot Richard Ball bagged a hat-trick and there was also a superb overhead kick strike from trialist midfielder or striker Anthony Robinson.

Robinson, formerly of Kidderminster Harriers, Stourbridge and Stratford, netted just before half-time to cap a fine display full of dribbling and ball juggling.

Ball put Swifts ahead on 13 minutes and headed home impressive midfielder John Shirley's corner for a second seven minutes later.

The forward completed his treble, shortly after Kerry Giddings had scored Swifts' fourth a minute into the second period with a long-range thunderbolt.

The other goals came from substitute Andy Wright on 70 minutes and summer signing James Wood, a speedy striker, six minutes later.

Wood had been taken off as a precaution for a knock on the ankle but returned to complete the scoring.

Bromyard grabbed a consolation in the second half through Matt Hughes.

Swifts missed Steve Ulfig, Craig Webb, Ronnie Sayer and Mark Jones who were on holiday.

New keeper Lee Evans had little to do in his first appearance for the men from Walshes Meadow.

Swifts also gave a run-out to another new capture, midfielder Mark Beddowes, and other trialists who included former Redditch reserve John Howard and Chaddesley midfielder Horace McLeod.

Ex-Harriers youth teamer and Bewdley keeper Tom Stewart was on the bench.
