THE brains behind a multi-million pound flood defence project - nominated for the prestigious Prime Minister's Better Public Building award - want to mark the spot of their achievement.
A plaque presented to the Environment Agency honouring the nomination looks set to take pride of place at Severnside North in Bewdley.chief executive of CABE Jon Rouse presents John Fitzsimons of the Environment Agency with the plaque at Severnside North.
The defence project was completed last August at a cost of £2 million and is one of only 12 buildings put forward for the national award, now in its third year of operation.
Bosses at the Environment Agency are looking to mount the plaque - handed to them by Jon Rouse from award sponsors the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) - onto the flood defence wall at nearby Dog Lane.
Regional flood defence manager at the Environment Agency John Fitzsimons said: "It was an honour to accept the plaque on behalf of everyone who has worked so hard to make this scheme a reality.
"Using innovative technology, we have all worked together to protect the community from flooding and to preserve the beauty of this lovely riverside."
Mr Rouse, chief executive at CABE, said: "This is an ingenious scheme which has already proved its worth by protecting the residents of Severnside North.
"It is a worthy contender in terms of design and engineering innovation."
The winner of the award will be announced in October.
The plaque will be put up pending approval from planning bosses at Wyre Forest District Council.
