TRIBUTES have been paid to two Pershore stalwarts, soon to be laid to rest.
Win Summerton, a long-serving town councillor who spearheaded the campaign to build Pershore swimming pool in the 1970s and helped found Pershore Heritage Centre, died last Wednesday at the age of 80. Reg Clarke, who served as Clerk to the Parish Council for many years after its foundation in 1974, died two days earlier at the age of 86.
Councillor Betty Hughes said: "They both did so much for the town. Reg was excellent - always willing to listen and give advice if you needed it." Coun Hughes described Mrs Summerton as "a great friend. She will be greatly missed by many people in Pershore." Mr Clarke's funeral is to be held at St Mary's Church in Elmley Castle, today, Thursday, July 24 at 2pm and Mrs Summerton's funeral is to take place at Pershore Abbey next Wednesday, July 30, at 2pm.
