THE sun is shining for a city performing arts student - after she was shortlisted for a competition to be a weather girl for a day.
Seventeen-year-old Kate Horey, from Fernhill Heath, was one of five lucky people to be short-listed out of a total of 200 entrants to the competition, organised by the BBC Midlands Today programme.
She will now face a public vote with her fellow competitors to win the chance to be a weather girl for the day under the guidance of BBC weather presenter Shefali Oza.
"I'm very excited and slightly nervous," said Kate, who dreamed of being a weather girl when she was younger.
Nervous
"I just can't believe I made it through to the final!"
Kate, who is studying Performing Arts and Media at Worcester College of Technology, was entered for the competition at the last minute by her mum.
In her audition at the Mailbox in Birmingham she had to stand in front of a screen and read off the autocue.
"I was so nervous I spoke too fast and the director had to tell me to slow down twice," remarked Kate.
However, she must have done something right as she was short-listed and will now appear on the Midlands Today programme on Tuesday, August 5.
The public vote is expected to take place on the weekend of Saturday, August 9.
