A CONMAN has carried out shoddy resurfacing work and is charging more than the agreed price in the Evesham area, police have warned.
The man, claiming to be from J&M Pavement, also known as Cotswold Pavements, called at the house of an elderly resident in Evesham, resurfaced her drive and charged £650 for an hour's work.
Later that afternoon, on Tuesday, July 22, three men were arrested in Beckford on suspicion of deception.
One man was later released without charge, one was released pending further enquiries and a third was remanded in custody following a licence being revoked.
"I believe these men have been operating in the Evesham area and I am keen to speak to anyone who thinks that they have been deceived in a similar way," said DC Eric Summerton.
"I am also keen to speak to anyone who thinks that a neighbour or friend has been deceived by these bogus callers and I would also urge them to contact me."
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Summerton on 08457 444888.
"Doorstep sellers say they will charge £20 and then drastically increase the price," warned PC Mike Stephenson, the crime risk manager for South Worcestershire.
"If you have not invited them to call they must give written details of your right to cancel within seven days.
"Always check the identification of the caller at your door, and if in doubt check with their company by looking their number up in the telephone directory.
"A genuine tradesmen, or in fact any genuine caller, will not mind waiting outside while you check their identity.
"Never agree to any work being done straight away. It is always best to get a written quotation. Never pay a deposit and allow yourself plenty of time to think about it so that you can cancel if you choose."
