Barclay Stewart's banishment from Leigh and Bransford Parish Council after 35 years distinguished service (Malvern Gazette, July 18) may have satisfied the Standards Board for England and Kevin Douglas, of Malvern Hills District Council, but what is meant by "giving the public a common standard of behaviour".
I am sure Mr Douglas is a diligent, hard working official but his role as monitoring officer appears to be a completely pointless job, paid for by the local taxpayers.
Incidentally, I know most of the local parish councillors, and having observed their work I have seen how effective they are.
Sadly, effectiveness will probably not interest the portentous Standards Board for England.
BRUCE TASKER, Bransford.
