I AM compelled to reply to B J Mann, of Nottingham (You Say, Friday, July 11).
I have made further enquiries and I am informed, on excellent authority, that when the green man is blinking at pedestrian crossings, pedestrians are, in fact, allowed to start to cross the road, albeit "with caution".
However, the green man apart, motorists are required, by law, to drive with "due care and attention".
This requirement is surely, particularly applicable when decrepit elderly folk are hovering in the vicinity.
Obviously, cyclists also should behave responsibly. Skateboarding and similar activities should only take place in areas where there is no danger to non-participants.
D E MARGRETT,
Worcester.
