Police-Sergeant Johnson, who was recently transferred from the Wells to Welland, at the same time being promoted to the rank of sergeant, has entered upon his new sphere of duty. He is succeeded at the Wells by PC Lyon, an active young officer who for the past three years has been in charge of the Wyche district. PC Beard is the new constable for the Wyche. The special musical recital given by Mr Tom Woodward, organist of Ledbury Church on Thursday last, was a brilliant performance, the fairly large audience being enraptured with the high class music provided. He was fortunate in securing the services of Herr Karl Johannassen, the renowned violinist, and the announcement that the Karl Johannassen quartet would also assist caused much delight. Ledbury Free Press, July 28, 1903.

More people in Malvern are reading books on philosophy, religion, sociology, science, useful and fine arts, literature, travel, geography and history, reported Mr J W Lucas, the librarian, at Monday's meeting of the Public Library Committee.
Mr Lucas said the upward trend was encouraging, but it was quality of book issues and not mere numbers which showed the value of the work being done by a library, and the qualitative as well as the quantitative rise in Malvern reading was an encouraging feature. In his report, Mr Lucas said 172,180 books had been issued for home reading. Malvern Gazette, July 24, 1953.
The good cause of the East End Invalid Children's Fund will benefit to the extent of £15 as a result of an amusing little play presented at the Church Room on Thursday week, by members of the Ledbury Dramatic Society. The comedy, The Bear's Nest, revolved round a quite unfounded rumour that a bear was responsible for the theft of food and damage to certain household goods. Ledbury Reporter, July 24, 1953.

The alleged decline in the popularity of skateboards, which threatened to put the skids under a plan for special facilities in Malvern, has proved unfounded as far as enthusiasts in the town are concerned. They turned out in force to two trial sessions at Malvern Youth Centre and have guaranteed the facilities will now go ahead. There were 55 skateboarders at the session run last Wednesday night, and 45 turned up at the Saturday session. Malvern Gazette, July 27, 1978.
IN October, more is likely to be known about the future of Bromesberrow St Mary's CE School, where numbers have declined to danger point. A new head teacher will, however, be going in there this September. Ledbury Reporter, June 27, 1978.
