A SPECTACULAR evening of romantic and passionate music with a fireworks extravaganza is up for grabs in a special Leisure competition.
The Shuttle/Times and News has joined forces with the English Symphony Orchestra to offer readers a chance to win one of three pairs of tickets for the "Passionate Classics" event being held at the Three Counties Showground on Saturday, August 23.
Music lovers will be offered the chance to experience an evening of thrilling music by joining the English Symphony Orchestra on a magical journey of classical romance from Spain, through Italy, to the land of the Arabian Nights.
The evening will culminate in a spectacular fireworks finale to Ravel's rousing Bolero, perhaps best remembered from the Dudley Moore film 10.
The picturesque Malvern Hills provide the perfect backdrop for this open-air celebration of passionate classical music that everyone will know and love including Rodrigo's captivating classical guitar concerto made famous by the British film Brassed Off, with soloist Mark Ashford.
Mark is one of the most exciting classical guitarists performing in Britain today and plays with an approach that is uniquely expressive and lyrical. He has played Concerto de Aranjuez with the Turin Symphony Orchestra and with the BBC Concert Orchestra both in concert and live on BBC Radio 2. Conducted by William Boughton, the programme will also include Rimsky-Korsakov's magically scored Scheherezade Suite exquisitely played by Michael Bochmann and Chabrier's rousing Espana.
The event is now in its sixth year and, as usual, concert-goers will be encouraged to take their chairs, picnic, and a bottle of wine to settle down under the stars for a seriously passionate evening.
Gates for the evening will open at 4.45pm and, at 6pm, the ESO Children's Orchestra will perform a bonus concert. The main concert will begin at 7pm.
Ticket prices are £17 in advance or £20 on the day and one free child is admitted with every adult ticket purchased.
Tickets are available from the box office on 01684 560696 (open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm) and also by booking online on www.eso.co.uk or from Malvern TIC.
For the chance to win tickets for the event, simply answer the following:
