From A to Z. Volume 2 by Sharon Bezaly.
Bis CD-1259 Digital.
IF the only flautist you have ever come across is James Galway, prepoare to be amazed by Sharon Bezaly.
She is of a different breed.
Her breath control is perfection and her command of a notoriously difficult instrument is wonderful.
Equally amazing is this, her second selection of the A -Z of music for the flute - and we are still only on the Bs and Cs!
Beginning with a piece by Caldini, when the player cannot be heard to draw breath and moving on to Back, Carter, de Boismortier and others, the variety of style and depth of control is remarkable.
The selection spans compositions over 270 years, from the 18th to the 21st Century, and the adjectives to describe the playing and the choice of compositions could become overly flowery and trite.
Suffice to say that Isreali, Sharon, is a dynamic and robust player with a skill that belies her age. Her interest in contemporary music is illustrated within this collection.
The final track on the CD has been dedicated to Sharon by composer Daniel Bortz and is called Tinted Drawings.
The tonal variance and melodic deviation makes for a fluid and expressive composition; the allegory of painting, with brushwork and liquid colour becoming one with the music.
Playing on a 14k all-gold flute Sharon Bezaly has made an enchanting and diverse CD.
