WORCESTER High Street is to be given a £180,000 facelift - as long as councillors can decide on the best furniture to use.
Three exhibitions of street furniture have been held in recent weeks and it seems that public opinion is veering towards a more contemporary style.
Worcester City Council cabinet members will sit down and decide tomorrow night on whether to follow the public's advice or to include some traditional seating as well.
The difficult decision is just one of many that will have to be made in the next few months in relation to the scheme to modernise the High Street and transform Worcester's traffic network.
The proposals, which were given the green light last month, mean the Cathedral roundabout will become part of a Cathedral Square, creating a new urban space.
In its place will be a single, straight road that will run through the new pedestrian area. The route will become a 20mph zone from Edgar Street and City Walls Road to Bridge Street and All Saints Road.
It has been suggested that a steering group consisting of five different organisations be set up to see the two initiatives through and decide on the best use for the site.
Representatives from the city council, county council, Cathedral, Duckworth Worcestershire Trust and English Heritage will all have a say. Several options have already been put forward on how to do this, although details have yet to be released.
