Plans for 56 new CCTV cameras at the St Martin's Gate car park are to be considered by Worcester City Council's cabinet tomorrow night.
A quote for £102,000 has been given by Intelligent Vision Solutions (IVS) for the work and would form part of a £500,000 makeover of the car park.
The multi-storey car park was described as "dark, dingy and dirty" at the council's cabinet meeting in January this year.
The project will include closing off the top level floors overnight by fitting new gates, and keeping just the ground floor open 24 hours a day.
It is hoped the measures, which also include improved lighting and signage, will bring the site up to the standard required to achieve Secured Car Park status.
Two part-time caretakers have already been employed to clean the car park, remove graffiti, repair damage and help customers.
The parking charges will be increased by 10p a day short-stay and 30p a day long-stay once the work is complete.
The council expects it will take six years to recover the costs through the increase in income.
