BUDDING young Malvern windsurfers made up a record number of competitors who took part in a successful day's racing in Tewkesbury.
Some 33 competitors got the wind under their sails at Croft Farm Water & Leisure Park as part of the national T15 series which is organised by the sport's governing body, the Royal Yachting Association.
The idea is to encourage youngsters, aged 15 and under, to take part and have fun.
The Malvern sailors made up 21 entrants who joined the Croft Farm Flyers home team.
Many were making their race debut while others had barely windsurfed for more than three months.
"It's good to have a constant influx of new windsurfers," said chief coach Tom Lawrence. "It encourages the more experienced to keep trying to keep trying and create a lively atmosphere with a degree of friendly rivalry."
Racing on the day included paddling, sail and paddle, a surf bike relay with the Flyers B team winning the overall event.
The next event is near Bridgewater in Somerset next month (August) but, in the meantime, newcomers are welcome at Croft Farm lake.
