Two brothers and a man who beat up a research scientist on a train have been found guilty by a jury at Worcester Crown Court.
Victim Peter Shakespeare refused to shake drunken Thomas Gormley's hand and told him to go away.
Gormley and the brothers attacked him in a carriage between Worcester and Malvern. He was beaten up again in Great Malvern's station car park.
Gormley, aged 21, of Randwick Drive, Warndon, Worcester, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm before the trial began.
He was given 18 months in jail and a concurrent nine-month sentence for burglary.
Lee Bateman, 20, of Cranham Drive, Warndon, was given two years' detention and 17-year-Anthony Bateman, of Maple Avenue, Tolladine, Worcester, was given a three-month supervision order. They were both convicted of ABH and pleaded guilty to affray.
Gormley lost his temper when the victim swore at him and joined the brothers for a combined attack, said prosecutor William Rickarby.
The trio had been drinking strong cider.
Mr Shakespeare, aged 30, who lives in Great Malvern, suffered severe bruising to both eyes, facial cuts and a painful shoulder in the incident on Saturday, August 10 last year.
