ORGANISERS behind Worcester's annual Beer Festival have announced the lucky winner of free tickets to the event.

Neil Swann, of Bromsgrove, won by suggesting which beers could be featured at the festival, which starts on Thursday, August 14, at Worcester race course.

About 20 people entered the competition and Neil's suggestion was picked from a hat.

"We just wanted to get a bit of input from the public as to which beers they would like to see at the festival," said its organiser Peter Bottomley.

As a result, the festival will offer a number of extra beers, including a couple from a brewery in Manchester.

Meanwhile, the hunt is still on for one daring drinker to take up the mammoth challenge of tasting the festival's 170 real ales before the big event.

About 20 people so far have entered the competition, which closes on Monday, August 4, and more can register online at www.worcesterbeerfest.org.uk

More than 5,000 people are expected at this year's event, which will focus on northern beers and also feature about 65 ciders and perrys from across the country.

It runs from 7pm to 11pm on Thursday, August 14, and 11am to 11pm on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16.

Entry is £3 per day and £5 after 5.30pm on Friday, with the price including a souvenir glass and programme. Tickets are available in advance from Huntingdon Hall.
