ALAN Edwards' phenomenal contribution to Worcester Canoe Club has been honoured by a memorial plaque.
Edwards -- the former Olympic star who died from cancer last year -- was a former chairman of the Worcester club and spent much of his time coaching and competing for the city.
Liz Edwards, Alan's widow, unveiled the memorial at the National Marathon Championships on Saturday, and present chairman Sue Hawthorn said it was apt moment considering the amount of work Alan had put in to organise this national event in the past.
"Alan was a driving force in both coaching and the administration of Worcester Canoe Club over the past 40 years," said Hawthorn.
"Even when he had the cancer, he still continued as a coach and continued paddling. He put so much work into organising the National Marathon Championships that it was a very fitting moment to unveil the memorial."
