AS an occasional member of the congregation of St John's Church, Worcester, I was interested to read the views of the Rev Christopher Pullin, where he expressed support for Canon Jeffrey John, who recently withdrew his acceptance of the post of Bishop of Reading following a row over his appointment.
I would like to ask Mr Pullin and the Bishop of Worcester, who supports the ordination of homosexual priests, if they believe what is written in the Bible?
If they do, how do they explain Genesis 19, which tells the story of the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by God, because of the depravity and homosexuality of their inhabitants?
Does the Church of England today believe in the Commandments? Does it have views on subjects that pose real moral and ethical questions such as abortion, surrogate births, IVF, the obscenity and pornography which emanates from the media everyday, the evils of the internet, medical research involving foetuses and so on?
If it does, we do not know what they are. From the clergy, the silence is deafening. I have recently attended St John's church, when only a handful of people was present. Is it any wonder?
One wonders whether many of the clergy today believe in anything other than the support of homosexuality. In the state of moral corruption in which we are living today, could we be heading for another Sodom and Gomorrah?
MRS L ROBERTS,
Worcester.
