IT took Evesham a mere 24 overs to skittle Bromyard last Saturday but victory hopes were denied when persistent rain meant the Crusader Worcestershire County League promotion chasers were unable to start their reply.

The result leaves Jon Gregory's side four points adrift of leaders Ombersley ahead of this weekend's visit to whipping boys Pedmore.

The captain will be hoping for more success with the coin after the decision to insert Bromyard brought swift reward especially when Gregory opted for the swing of Ian Stowe rather than the pace of Warren Irvine.

Both openers were clean bowled before double figures had been posted as the ball swung prodigiously in the conditions.

The impressive Chris Pennell then removed the dangerous Saeed thanks to a fine gully catch by Quinn Jones.

Stowe continued to weave his magic and ended with fabulous figures of 5-31 as the visitors were shot out for 62.

However, the rain began to fall and, despite a frustrating four-hour stay, the weather didn't relent and Evesham were left to reflect on what might have been.

The match was sponsored by John and Lyn Heeney.

The eleven to travel to Pedmore on Saturday are Gregory, Stowe, Jones, Irvine, Pennell, Gary Lewis, Stuart Berry, Richard Layton, Stewart Langstone, Neal Radford and Mike Granacki.
